British Values

At White Court, British Values aren’t just taught — they’re lived. Through our rich curriculum, inclusive culture and strong sense of community, children learn to be kind, confident and respectful citizens. We believe in nurturing both hearts and minds, helping every child to grow from a little acorn into a mighty oak — ready to make a positive difference in the world.

Our Approach

At White Court, our vision — “Nurturing every little acorn to become a mighty oak” — is at the heart of everything we do. We nurture hearts to be compassionate and courageous, and minds to be resilient and responsible.

In accordance with the Department for Education’s guidance, and as part of the 2011 Prevent strategy, we actively promote the fundamental British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. These values are not taught as standalone lessons; they are lived, modelled and celebrated every day through our curriculum, assemblies, behaviour culture, pupil leadership and community involvement.

Democracy

Our children learn that their voices matter. From class votes and School Council elections to sharing ideas in pupil groups and shaping school life, pupils experience democracy in action. They learn to listen, value different opinions and make decisions together — developing fairness, confidence and a sense of shared responsibility.

The Rule of Law

We help children understand the importance of rules — in school and in society — and how they keep us safe, happy and successful. Through clear expectations, restorative conversations and consistent boundaries, pupils learn that actions have consequences and that fairness underpins justice.
Our approach is kind but firm: we guide children to make positive choices and take responsibility for them. Visits from community role models such as the police and fire service help bring these lessons to life.

Individual Liberty

At White Court, we empower children to make informed, positive choices about their learning, friendships and play. They are encouraged to explore their interests, take risks in their learning and express themselves confidently, knowing their opinions are valued.
Opportunities such as OPAL play, Forest School, and our rich extra-curricular offer give children the freedom to follow their passions and develop independence within a safe and supportive environment.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance

Respect is the foundation of our inclusive community. We teach our children that everyone is unique, valuable and deserving of kindness. Our equality and inclusion work — from Pride Week and fundraising for local causes to visits to the local care home — helps children appreciate diversity and stand up for what is right.
We are a school where difference is celebrated and hate has no home. Through our curriculum, assemblies and daily interactions, children learn about different faiths, beliefs and cultures, and how empathy, understanding and acceptance make our world stronger.

At White Court, these values are not just lessons to be taught but principles to be lived. They guide our words, our actions and our relationships — helping every child grow from a little acorn into a mighty oak: compassionate, confident and ready to make a positive difference in the world.
