Computing
Meet the team

We enjoy teaching Computing at White Court School because it inspires curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving in every child. Leading the subject area and watching pupils develop confidence as they explore new technologies and bring their ideas to life is incredibly rewarding. Computing opens doors to collaboration, innovation, and real-world thinking, helping children see that they can shape the digital world, not just use it.

Vision
At White Court School, we understand that the world around us is constantly changing and that technology plays a huge part in our everyday lives. As we all become more reliant on digital tools and online communication, it’s important that our children learn how to use technology safely, confidently and creatively. Following the National Curriculum for Computing, we help our pupils develop the key skills and knowledge across the three main areas of Computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
Through our teaching, we also encourage children to be resilient when facing challenges, courageous in trying new ideas, responsible in how they use technology, and compassionate towards others in the digital world.
Our Computing curriculum
At White Court School, we teach our children the skills and knowledge to use computational thinking and creativity, enabling them to become active participants in the digital world. It is important to us that our pupils understand how to use ever-changing technology to express themselves, support their learning, and drive their generation forward into the future.
We teach our children to use technology responsibly, positively, and safely, encouraging them to be mindful of how their behaviour, words, and actions can affect others.
To teach Computing at White Court School, our teachers follow a clear, effective, and bespoke Computing curriculum designed to provide full coverage in line with the National Curriculum. Teaching and learning ensure progression across all key stages within the three strands of Digital Literacy (DL), Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science (CS).
Our approach also provides children with opportunities to make cross-curricular links and apply their digital skills in a variety of meaningful contexts.
Each year, children are taught five key units: Digital Literacy, Technology in Our Lives, Programming, Multimedia, and Data Handling. In addition, pupils combine their skills from all three strands of Computing to complete an annual project within their year group.
We can measure the success of the Computing curriculum by seeing how confidently our children use technology to achieve a wide range of goals, both in school and at home. Our pupils develop a secure and comprehensive understanding of how technology and digital systems impact their lives — an essential skill in a world where technologies and trends are constantly evolving.
We encourage our children to discuss, reflect on, and appreciate the impact that Computing has on their learning, development, and well-being. They are given opportunities to showcase, share, celebrate, and publish their work in a variety of creative ways, demonstrating the depth of their understanding and skills.
