Geography
Meet the Team

We are so happy to be Geography Leads because it allows us to share our love of travel and exploration with the children. With our families, we both love visiting new places, seeing both the human and physical features that make each country unique, trying new foods, and experiencing different cultures. Through these experiences, we’ve developed a real appreciation for the incredible diversity of our world — and we want to inspire that same excitement and curiosity in our pupils. We hope to help children see how much fun can be had when exploring new places, whether that’s somewhere far away or right on their doorstep. By encouraging them to notice and appreciate the geography of their own locality, we aim to help them understand that every place has something special to offer and that the world is theirs to explore.
Vision
At White Court School, we aim to help children develop a deep understanding of the world around them — starting with their local area and expanding to the wider world. Through our Geography curriculum, children learn about the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the seven continents and five oceans. They explore both human and physical features such as towns, rivers, mountains, and weather patterns, while developing practical skills in using maps, globes and fieldwork to understand direction, scale and location. Our aim is for every child to feel inspired by the world around them — to be curious explorers who wonder about new places, appreciate the beauty of our planet, and grow up caring deeply for the world we all share.
Our Geography Curriculum
At White Court School, we teach Geography through engaging and practical lessons that build on what children already know. In Key Stage 1, children explore their local area through walks, map work and simple observations, helping them to understand their immediate surroundings. As they move into Key Stage 2, their learning broadens to include more complex topics such as rivers, climate, cities and global regions, encouraging enquiry, research and deeper thinking. Throughout the school, fieldwork, map skills and interactive activities make learning hands-on and memorable, while cross-curricular links help children make meaningful connections across subjects. Lessons are carefully planned to ensure that all children can achieve success. By the time they leave White Court, our pupils have a strong understanding of where they live and how it connects to the wider world. They are confident using maps, atlases and digital tools, understand key geographical concepts such as location, environment and human impact, and demonstrate curiosity, respect and responsibility for the world and its people.
