Meet the team

Miss Lomas

Mr Pruce

Mrs Farren

At White Court, Mr Pruce, Mrs Farren and Miss Lomas all love teaching maths! We enjoy helping children discover that maths isn’t just about numbers — it’s about patterns, problem-solving and learning how to think logically. Whether we’re exploring shapes, solving tricky puzzles or finding clever ways to work things out, we love seeing those lightbulb moments when everything suddenly makes sense!
Maths is such an important skill because it’s everywhere in our daily lives — from telling the time and baking a cake, to planning a trip or designing a building. Learning maths helps children become confident, creative thinkers who can tackle challenges with curiosity and resilience. Most of all, we want every child to know that everyone can be a mathematician with the right attitude, practice and a little bit of fun along the way!

Vision

At White Court, we teach Maths with the understanding that "every child can".

What are we teaching?

Our mathematics curriculum aims to foster enjoyment, understanding and confidence through a rich and progressive programme of study. Using the White Rose Maths scheme, we support children in developing the ability to reason, solve problems and think logically and accurately as they build a deep understanding of mathematics.

How are we teaching?

  • At White Court, Maths is taught daily,  following a Mastery Approach. Children are taught through mixed ability whole class lessons.
  • Children build fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills through a deep and connected understanding of mathematics.
  • Lessons use a range of representations (concrete, pictoral and abstract) to guide children through their understanding of mathematical processes.
  • Revise and Review consolidation ‘Magic Maths’ sessions are used to revisit previous learning and ensure Maths skills are embedded.
  • Teachers use formative assessment within lessons and summative assessment over time to identify next steps, support individual needs and track progress.

What will the children learn?

  • As a result of our Maths teaching you will see:
  • Engaged children who are all supported and challenged.
  • Confident children who can explain their learning, make connections, and apply their skills across mathematics.
  • Children developing fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills through a mastery approach.
  • Learning that is tracked and monitored to ensure all children make good progress.

Our Maths Curriculum

  •  Focuses on developing fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving — the three key aims of Maths Mastery.
  • Ensures children build a deep understanding of mathematical concepts before moving on.

  • Encourages pupils to use and apply Maths in real-life situations and across other subjects.

  • Promotes mathematical talk, reasoning and explaining their thinking.

  • Covers key areas: number, calculation, geometry, measurement, and statistics (with algebra introduced later).

  • Builds knowledge and skills progressively from Early Years through Key Stages 1 and 2.

  • Aims for all pupils to become confident, resilient mathematicians who enjoy learning Maths.
