PSHE and RSE

Meet the team

Mrs Scrivener

 Miss Stead

We are passionate about teaching PSHE because it empowers young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to navigate life’s challenges and make informed decisions. It’s a subject that goes beyond academics—it touches the heart of who students are and who they’re becoming. We love creating a safe space where they can explore topics like mental health, relationships, identity, and resilience, and where every voice is valued. Seeing students grow in empathy, self-awareness, and social responsibility is incredibly rewarding, and I feel privileged to be part of that journey.

Vision

At White Court School, PSHE is a vital and integral part of our whole-school curriculum. Our provision is designed in line with the National Curriculum and the 2025 statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), ensuring that all pupils receive a broad and balanced education that supports their personal development, wellbeing, and safety.

Our PSHE curriculum is structured to help children:

  • Develop a secure understanding of risk, and the knowledge and skills to make safe, informed decisions in a variety of contexts.
  • Explore statutory content including relationships education, sex education, physical and mental health, drugs and alcohol education, financial literacy, and the importance of physical activity and nutrition for a healthy lifestyle.
  • Understand personal safety, including road, rail, water and fire safety, and how to stay safe in public and online spaces.
  • Learn correct terminology for body parts, including genitalia, to support safeguarding and reduce stigma.
  • Build resilience and emotional literacy through topics such as grief, loss, loneliness, and mental wellbeing.
  • Recognition of diverse family structures, ensuring all children feel represented and respected.

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment where children feel confident to express their feelings, ask questions, and explore sensitive issues. Our teaching promotes empathy, respect for others, and the development of a strong sense of identity, values and beliefs.

We work closely with parents and carers, maintaining transparency about curriculum content and ensuring that our approach reflects the needs of our pupils and community. Our staff are supported through ongoing professional development to deliver PSHE with confidence, sensitivity, and expertise.

Our PSHE and RSE Curriculum

 We are teaching...

When children leave White Court they will do so with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these so that they have good mental health and well-being.

We teach PSHE and RSE by...

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education at White Court  is taught using a mindful approach through the Jigsaw scheme of work. This embraces emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development.  Children have one lesson per week through varied teaching strategies and differentiated approaches to suit all children.  This is a whole school approach with all year groups working on the same theme (puzzle) at the same time.   Emotional resilience is be taught, practised and developed throughout the lessons and activities.

The children learn...

By the time our children leave our school, they will be equipped to approach a variety of real-life situations, applying their skills and attributes to navigate modern life confidently. They will be on their journey to becoming healthy, open-minded, respectful, and socially and morally responsible individuals who actively contribute to society. Our pupils will appreciate difference and diversity, and will understand and embody the British Values of democracy, tolerance, mutual respect, rule of law, and liberty. They will be able to recognise and manage their emotions, take care of their mental health and well-being, and build positive, healthy relationships with their peers both now and in the future. They will also have an age-appropriate understanding of the physical aspects of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), hold respect for themselves and others, and possess a strong sense of positive self-esteem.
