Science

 Meet the Team

We love science because it helps us make sense of the world around us! From the tiniest insects to the vastness of space, science encourages curiosity, creativity and discovery. As science leads, we want every child to feel the excitement of asking questions, exploring ideas and finding out how things work. Science is about wonder and we love sharing that sense of wonder with our pupils every day.

Vision

We aim to inspire curiosity and a love of discovery in every child. Our vision is for pupils to see themselves as confident, capable scientists who can ask questions, investigate the world around them and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Through a broad and engaging curriculum, we help children develop scientific knowledge, enquiry skills and critical thinking, equipping them to understand and explore the world now and in the future.

Our Science Curriculum

We are teaching...

At White Court School, we teach a rich and progressive science curriculum that nurtures children’s curiosity. Through engaging, practical experiences, pupils learn to think and work like scientists - asking questions, exploring ideas and developing a secure understanding of key scientific concepts.

Our teaching focuses on developing children’s skills in scientific enquiry and investigation. They learn to plan and carry out fair tests, observe carefully, record results and explain what they have found using appropriate scientific vocabulary. By building these skills year on year, our children gain the knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm to apply science in real-life contexts and to see themselves as capable young scientists.

We teach Science by...

At White Court School, science lessons focus on developing key knowledge and scientific vocabulary so that children can think, talk and work like scientists. Our progressive curriculum builds enquiry skills over time, helping pupils to investigate, observe and explain the world around them.

Lessons are carefully planned to support and challenge all learners, ensuring that every child can achieve success. Children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and use evidence to draw conclusions, while teachers address misconceptions to deepen understanding.

We also inspire curiosity beyond the classroom through Science Clubs and our whole-school Science Week, giving pupils extra opportunities to explore and enjoy science in action.

The children learn...

As a result of our science teaching, children at White Court School develop a strong understanding of scientific ideas and the skills needed to investigate them. They are engaged and enthusiastic learners who enjoy exploring the world around them.

Children confidently ask questions, discuss their learning and make links between new knowledge, their own experiences and prior learning. They can plan and carry out investigations, measure and record results accurately, and present their findings clearly through diagrams, written work and discussion.

Through well-planned support and challenge, all pupils make good progress in science, developing both their knowledge and their confidence to think, talk and work like scientists.
